Fara is very famous food of chattisgarh . Generally it has made with rice flour but I have used whole wheat flour in this recipe .

  2. 1 cup whole-wheat flour
  3. 1 tsp salt or as per taste
  4. 1 cup water
  5. For stuffing -
  6. 1 cup chana dal soaked for about 4 hours
  7. 1 inch small piece of ginger
  8. 2-3 garlic cloves
  9. 2 small green chillies
  10. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  11. 1 tsp garam masala powder
  12. To taste Salt as per taste
  13. 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
  14. For tempering -
  15. 2 tsp oil
  16. 5-6 curry leaves
  17. 2 tsp cumin seeds
  18. 1 tsp sesame seeds

Instructions to make to make Whole-wheat flour fara / peetha

  1. First for dough - in a big bowl take whole wheat flour,then add salt and mix well. Now make a soft dough by using water.Cover it and keep it aside.
  2. Fir stuffing - take soaked chana dal,wash it and drain it.
  3. Now in a grinder,take soaked chana dal,add garlic cloves,ginger,cumin seeds and green chilli.Grind it coarsely.
  4. Now in a coarse grind dal,add coriander leaves,garam masala powder,turmeric powder and salt as per taste. Mix all ingredients well.Stuffing is ready. Keep this aside.
  5. Now take dough and make equal size balls with it. Now take a ball and roll it with rolling pin make a disk shape. Now put 1 tbsp stuffing on it.
  6. Now fold it and make semi circle.Repeat this process with remaining balls. Faras are ready to boil.
  7. Now in a wide pot add water,when water starts boiling,add salt,now add faras into this water and cook until they starts floating up.
  8. Now take out these faras and let them cool down. Now cut them into small pieces.
  9. For tempering - in a pan add oil,add cumin seeds and sesame seeds.When seeds starts crackle then add curry leaves now add faras and cook for about 5 minutes. Serve hot with green chutney.
